The Jumma Masjid, the last architectural extravaganza of the Moghul Emperor, was built by Shah Jahan in the year 1656 AD. The northern gate of the masjid has 39 steps and the southern gate of the masjid has 33 steps, all built of red sandstone. The eastern gate and the main entrance have 35 steps. The roof of the masjid is covered with three domes with alternative stripes of black and white marble. The topmost part of the domes is worked with gold. Back side of the masjid has four small minerats. The masjid has the capacity to hold 100,000 devotees. This masjid required 5000 workers to build at the expense of RS.10 crore.
